After much thought and discussion, the hubs and I have decided to move our son out of his current bedroom and into the guest bedroom. When we moved in to this house last summer we put our kids in the rooms that shared a jack-and-jill bathroom, and left the larger upstairs bedroom, which has its own bathroom, open for guests. This seemed like a smart decision at the time. We thought our guests would probably appreciate having their own private bathroom. The thing is now that the kids are getting older, and being that we have a boy and a girl, it just doesn’t seem like the best use of our home to have our kids fighting over sharing a bathroom every day when there is another bathroom down the hall that only ever gets used when we have guests staying with us. So long story short, both kids will now have their own bathroom.  (And hopefully I’ll regain some sanity.)  My son is getting the larger bedroom. My girl will now share her bathroom with our occasional out of town guests. Both kids are pretty pumped about this transition. My girl is super excited about not having to share a bathroom with her older, messier brother………but really she’s excited about giving her bathroom a girly makeover. Like mother like daughter I guess because I’m pretty pumped about this bathroom makeover as well!
Since this is a jack-and-jill bathroom with a guest room on the other side I want to inject a youthful look that will also serve adult guests well.  I’m calling my design plan – youthful chic – you know, because that’s a thing.  😉  This gorgeous original abstract floral painting by Emma Bell is serving as the inspiration for this space.
We haven’t really done much in this bathroom since moving in a year ago, and I’m excited to give this blank canvas some personality. As you can see this bathroom doesn’t need a complete overhaul. It’s already pretty great. All I plan to do is inject some color and pattern with some fun accessories and up the design of the space with a few simple diy projects.
The steam from the shower has played a number on the walls, so I’ll be repainting with a good moisture resistant bathroom paint.  I’m planning to go white and bright on the walls but will be bringing in a nice dose of color in another area.  I think a few simple updates will up the chic factor and make this space a whole lot more fun.
Using the painting as inspiration I found some playful bathroom accessories to coordinate.
(shower curtain, wastebasket, lotion pump, striped towel)
What’s not to love about a little Kate Spade Home?!  I’m excited to get started on this fun little project!  I have no doubt when I’m done I’ll be wishing this was my bathroom not hers.  😉
Am sure it will be fantastic when you are done. Live th inspiration…I am jealous- we only have a single bathroom in our house (no powder room or half bath- just the one bathroom) and I have to share it with two teenage boys! Some kids have all the luck! 🙂
