DIY No Sew Christmas Tree Skirt

One other space that is already decorated for Christmas is the upstairs playroom. I call it a playroom even though my kids are past the “toys everywhere” stage. It’s really more of a family hang out space. Anyhow, I just finished decking this space out for the holidays and will be sharing a little tour of it here on the blog tomorrow. Today I’m sharing the easiest tutorial for how to make a Christmas tree skirt with nothing but some fabric and a pair of scissors. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO SEWING INVOLVED! This project start to finish will take maybe 20 minutes. It’s that simple!

THE DIY DETAILS

The key to the whole no sewing thing is in using fleece as your material and a really good pair of fabric scissors or a rotary cutter.  A good cutter will in a way “seal” the edges so that you won’t need to sew.   Fleece by nature doesn’t fray, and it comes in all sorts of great patterns around the holidays.  I’m sure you’re not surprised that I chose plaid.

DIY Christmas Tree Skirt

  1. Start with a perfect square of fabric.
  2. Lay down an old tree skirt on top to use as a makeshift pattern.  Or use a yardstick to mark a circle.
  3. Cut around the edge of your circle.
  4. Poke a hole in the center, then cut a small hole in the center.  Cut a straight slit from the small center circle to the edge.
  5. To finish the edges, create a fringe look by cutting a slit about an inch long every inch or so around the entire edge.

You haven’t even finished watching a whole Hallmark Christmas movie yet, and you’re already done with your little project!

  • I’m putting this on my to-do list right now. I’ve been searching for a new tree skirt that I love but that doesn’t break the bank for years. The fleece is such a great idea!

  • I’ve only decorated two spaces in my home early – our screen porch and the playroom. I’m a design blogger and the holiday season is a busy time for “business bloggers”. I signed on to collaborate with Lowe’s Home Improvement on their holiday campaign this year which meant having to decorate early. I guess I could save the content to share after Thanksgiving, but that seems disingenuous to me seeing as these rooms are in fact decorated already. Additionally, after years of blogging, I’ve realized that in sharing my holiday posts after Thanksgiving readers don’t really have an opportunity to use any of the ideas shared this season. I mean if I shared this tree skirt tutorial at the end of November or early December what are the chances that anyone would have the time to do this project. Many people, while maybe not already decorating, are already planning their holiday decor and shopping for items they want to use to decorate their homes.

On a personal side, my family isn’t hosting Thanksgiving and we are traveling in December, so decorating early gives me more time to just enjoy the season with my family when it kicks into high gear after Thanksgiving.
