I spent my Thanksgiving break binge-watching Gilmore Girls. My holiday was high on entertainment value and low on productivity. Basically it was the best Thanksgiving ever. My kids had the whole week off of school, so Monday morning I felt as bad as I did the day after I had my wisdom teeth removed. Yes, that’s slightly dramatic, but only just a tad. I did manage to get the exterior of our home decorated for the holidays. I’ve never been one to enjoy exterior Christmas decor. Okay, correction, I’ve always enjoyed it on other people’s homes. I’ve just never been a big Clark Griswold type myself. Moving to South Carolina changed all that for me. At least it did a little. I’ve transformed from being a “put a wreath on the door and call it done” girl to a “let’s spend an hour or two decking the outside halls”.
What can I say? Stringing lights in seventy degree weather while wearing flip flops and a t-shirt is my idea of a Merry Christmas!
I don’t love to store tons of Christmas decor, so I opt for mostly fresh greenery. I’m also a big less-is-more, keep-it-simple type of holiday decorator. It’s not super Griswald-y, but some lights rather than no lights feels really festive to me. This year I went with swags rather than wreaths, and I brought in some poinsettias.
I dressed up my year round boxwood wreaths with some wood signs I scored in the Target dollar spot. Red spray paint gave the plain wood signs a festive, traditional Christmas look.
I’ll share some night time photos when I do the full holiday house tour next week!
Love it, the wreaths are wonderful.
