Happy December 1st! I’m finally done decorating the house for Christmas! WoOhOo! It takes me about a week to get things done now. I blame the old age. Or maybe it’s my type A tendencies? I like to organize everything in a way that makes the take down and clean up after the holidays really simple and easy. Anyhow, today I’m excited to share our exterior decorations, and next week I’ll be sharing a tour of the inside of the house.
Green, Red and ……….Pink!
I love our pink front door year round, but I’m crazy about it around the holidays! I just love how it pairs with bright red. It’s like peanut butter and jelly. It just feels right.
(This plaid doormat I’ve had for over a year now is still in perfect condition!)
This year I reluctantly decided to go with a mix of faux and fresh greenery. The trees I received through my holiday collaboration with Lowe’s last year. I used them on my screen porch last year, but this year I decided to use them out front. They’re so real-looking and just lovely at night. Plus they’re easy to set up!
I prefer fresh wreaths, but here in South Carolina the fresh wreaths turn brown way too quickly. So I went with fresh for the doors and faux for the porch railings. The fake ones do offer the advantage of being reusable even if they’re not as pretty to me as the real thing.
For the past two years my husband has wrapped the porch railing with twinkle lights, but this year we decided to keep it easy. Are you noticing a trend? 😉 So in addition to the two small lighted trees (from Lowe’s) I also brought out our Balsam Hill tree, and I just love how it looks especially at night! I kept it super simple and just strung some wood bead garland around it. Less is more is my motto around the holidays. Mainly because less is less to put away. 😉 #keepinitreal
And Buffalo Checked
Apart from the wreaths and trees I brought in a little buffalo check plaid and pretty much called her done. It feels festive and fun!
I also pulled the trunk that was at the foot of my daughter’s bed out here. She’s wasn’t really using it to do anything other stash stuff she didn’t want to put away. 😉 And pulling it out of her room has given her some much needed extra space (we’ll be working on a room update for her next year……her brother’s room makeover has her head spinning with ideas). Anyhow, I’m really liking the trunk out here as a side table between the porch chairs. And it gives me a place to stash extra cushions and other outdoor decor like lanterns and small planters.
( All the heart eyes for my two girls!)
When It’s Lit…….Literally
Christmas lights are like the only reason I can tolerate daylight savings time. Just me? If the sun has to set earlier we at least have this to look forward to right?!
Putting our exterior porch lights on a dimmer switch was one of the best diy projects I did this year. Seriously, so easy and so great! Love me some good mood lighting.

Cheers to champagne in a red wine glass! Happy Weekend friends! May your holiday season be filled love and joy.
Already Planning…….
I think next year I might go super retro and go with the old school big colorful lights. They’re just so fun, even if Stranger Things has made them feel slightly spooky. 😉 It’s totally normal to think about how you might want to decorate for next year immediately after you finish decorating for the current year. Right?
Everything is so beautiful. I love the trees lit up at night.
