FrogTape Paintover Challenge – Laundry/Mudroom Progress

It’s week 2, the half-way point of the FrogTape Paintover Challenge, and I’m happy to share an update on the laundry/mudroom makeover!

The Tile Is In!

I’m so in love with the new tile I can hardly contain my excitement!  It looks even better than I thought it would.  And the practical part of me loves how well it disguises dirt!

With the floor now dark, I painted the walls Aesthetic White by Sherwin Williams (which is the same color of the walls in my powder room).  I chose white for the walls because I want the white washer and dryer to disappear into the walls.  This will allow the moulding and cabinetry to take center stage.  My goal is to play down the utilitarian aspect of this space.  I realize this is a mudroom/laundry room, but that doesn’t mean it needs to look like one.  😉

To bring home more of a classic, traditional feel I’m going to paint the moulding and cabinetry a light grey. (Amazing Grey by Sherwin Williams) It’s hard to tell from photos, but the white trim color in this space looks really dingy compared to the white in the tile.  On top of that because this room sees so much use from my kids and my dogs, the white trim is always smudged and dirty.  So I think a light grey will not only look great, but it will be much more practical for the way we live.

FrogTape’d and Ready to Paint!

The room is now completely FrogTape® prepped, and the trim and cabinets are ready to be painted!

Here’s a peek at where I’ve already started painting the trim.  I’m loving this light grey color paired with the charcoal grey and white tile!

I’ve got really fun plans for this door!  And the yellow Delicate Surface tape by FrogTape® is what is going to make this project possible!  It allows you to tape over freshly painted areas without damaging your paint job!

I can’t wait to share the reveal of this room next week!  Sorry for all the exclamation points…..but I am so excited about this project!  In all of the 6 houses I’ve called home, this is the first laundry room to ever get a pretty makeover!

Be sure to check in with the other FrogTape® Paintover Challenge participants to see how their makeovers are progressing.  And check back next week when we reveal our spaces!  Readers will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite, and $5000 will be awarded to the charity of the winner’s choice!

  • I can’t wait to see the reveal! I almost put that tile in our bathroom, but ended up going with tile in the brown family instead since it looked better with my vanity, but I still just love that tile!!

  • Looks amazing Carmel. Had a question…we need to replace the flooring in our “small” laundry area, as the 20 year old linoleum has seen better days. Do you worry about the tile or grout cracking due to the vibration from the washer? The new washers spin a such a high speed, and I know they do not recommend them being upstairs. (had a friend’s dining room chandy fall on her beautiful table due to cracks over time).

  • Looking lovely. I have a question about painting the trim. When you paint your trim a different color than the trim in the adjoining area how do you know where to stop?
