With Thanks for Leopard Washi Tape

Mom, what’s for dinner?

Do you at least know when we’ll be having dinner?

Well, can we just order pizza instead of you making something?

How come she never has to take out the trash?

Why does he get to have his friends over if he hasn’t finished his chores yet?

Do we really have to make our beds every. single. day?!

Why do I have to unload the dishwasher again?

How come I have to do everything around here?

Why do I have to take a shower when I just took one yesterday?

Do I have to wash my hair too?!

How come he gets to be the TV commander?

Why don’t I ever get to pick the movie?

I have a question too.

Just one.

Why is this television remote always on the floor?

The floor, of all places, when there’s a perfectly nice glass and lucite side table that I scored at a local consignment shop for $75!………..

a beautiful brass trunk, that I found years ago at a place in Kentucky called Another Man’s Treasure, that holds a tray I lovingly painted and stenciled that is just perfect for setting down a remote…….

a coffee table, one that is in fact the pedestal table of my dreams, just waiting for its opportunity to serve as a television remote holder……

just why?!

For the love of all that is good and right and sensible in the world, of all the places, why the floor?

Can’t you see this poor remote has been through enough?

It’s barely making it with a little piece of leopard washi tape holding the back in place to keep the batteries from falling out.

This morning when I once again found this poor little remote on the floor, I couldn’t help but smile.  Maybe it’s the promise of a new school year.  😉   Or maybe it was the taste of my coffee and the coziness of my fuzzy socks, but I did indeed smile.

I smiled because I’ve been that remote.

Broken…..

But still working…..still trying.

Broken but holding it together with a smile, some grit….. and a little bit of sass and sarcasm.

It’s because of the times I’ve been broken that I know exactly how strong I am.

The good news for this little remote is that the hands that have been terrorizing it all summer long are headed back to school next week!

And the good news for all of us is that the seasons of life change.  And we are strong enough to weather them all.  Sometimes we just need a little help from some leopard washi tape to remind us to hold on and keep it together for this too shall pass.

Cheers to the last weekend of summer friends!   I’ve hidden the television remote from the kids.  😉

  • At this point in time I could use a whole lotta leopard washi tape to hold me together!!! HAA I love the analogy and the questions, they sound very familiar!! Hope you’ve all had a great summer and happy back to school for kiddos and mama next week 🙂
