From My Family to Yours

I’m ever so grateful for all of you who stop by my little corner of the internet.  Whether you catch up with every new post or pop in weekly or monthly I’m truly thankful for your support and encouragement.  Writing this blog is a true passion of mine, and connecting with you all through our shared love of home decor is such a treat!

Family Picture Tips

I’m certainly no fashion blogger, but my best advice for coordinating outfits for family pictures is to look at putting everyone’s clothes together the same way you would go about decorating a room.  For instance, just as you would typically start a room design with an inspiration piece, this same methodology works for family pictures.  In this case my son’s plaid shirt was the inspiration piece, and the color palette for our family attire was built from there.

Don’t be afraid to mix patterns and play with texture, especially for winter pictures.   Fur, velvet and anything quilted photograph beautifully and read holiday without being overtly Christmas-y.

Moms, if you want natural, relaxed smiles on your kiddos faces, make sure they feel good and comfortable in their clothes.  Tennis shoes may not have been my first choice, but that’s what they feel good wearing.

Working with a photographer your family really likes is also a bonus.  When you feel comfortable with your photographer that relaxed vibe will shine through in your photos.  I was thrilled to be able to have the amazingly talented Sarah Dunn shoot our family photos while we were in Lexington, KY visiting family over Thanksgiving break.  Lexington friends, Sarah is the best!

*Outfit details – We’re all wearing clothes that we’ve had for a while.  My sweater was an H&M find and the burgundy leather skirt is an oldie but goodie from a local boutique.  My velvet booties are from Madewell and are sold out.  The boy’s shirt is from Abercrombie.  The girl’s dress is from Target and her vest is from Old Navy.  The hubs sport coat is by Barbour, and his plaid pants are from JCrew.

Merriest Christmas!

I’m signing off for the next few days to enjoy this special season with my three loves.  Wishing you and yours the merriest Christmas!  I’ll be back after Christmas with a preview of what’s to come in 2018.  I’m already excited about the projects I’m cooking up next year!
