I really love hosting guests, especially around the holidays! A few simple, festive touches go a long way in making a guest bedroom feel holiday ready.
All I did here was add a sweet mini-boxwood wreath, some plaid pillows and a festive looking bouquet of flowers to the desk, and boom, she feels ready for holiday hosting. I’m all about keeping things easy and simple!
Plaid is one of my favorite patterns to mix with leopard around this time of year. The mix feels festive and chic. And I love that this look is more seasonal than holiday, so I can leave it all they way up to spring.
Guest Bedroom Essentials
I like making our guests feel welcomed and special. So there are a few simple, little things I do in our guest room year round.
#1 – I stock the desk drawers with mints, pens and paper.
#2 – I keep books, magazines, extra towels and toiletries (all our free toothbrushes from dentist visits get deposited in here) in baskets in that red bookcase.
Because I’m such a nerd about my book recommendations I use a post-it to write a quick line or two about what I liked or thought about each book. I think it’s helpful for guests to decide which book they might want to read.
#3 – Last but not least, and this is really more for me than for our guests, but I keep a guest room sign-in book on the desk. I’ve written a note to guests in here which gives them all the wifi information, and tells them where they can find things like extra toothbrushes or books. And they in turn leave us a message in here before they leave. I think it’s just a special way to commemorate each and every visit. Might seem silly, but I love little things like this!
Are you hosting any family or friends over this holiday season? Hospitality, in my opinion, is less about making our homes lovely and more about treating our guests to lovely experiences. Opening your home as an extension of your heart, that’s what it’s really all about! But let’s face it, pretty pillows help too. 😉
