Guest Ready Powder Room & Grocery Store Flowers – Spring Progressive Dinner Party

Today I’m joining 9 of my favorite blogging gals in hosting a virtual spring progressive dinner party!

I love entertaining!  Although I wouldn’t call myself the hostess with the mostess, at least not in the traditional sense.  I consider myself a “relaxed entertainer”.  Rather than fretting over trying to make the perfect meal or creating the perfect tablescape I prefer to keep things as simple and easy as possible.  My goal is always to have as much fun, if not more fun, than my guests.  So I outsource as much as possible to keep the party preparation very low stress, which basically means I have zero shame in serving a store bought cake on a fancy cake stand.  Entertaining for me is more about enjoying my people rather than trying to impress them with my unimpressive cooking skills.  😉

Two things I pride myself on when it comes to stress-free entertaining in my home:

1. A Guest Ready Powder Room

Don’t even try to act like the first thing on your mind right before your guests start to arrive isn’t whether or not your powder room is clean.  Everyone who lives in my house knows, you’re not allowed to use the powder room on party day.  Ha!  But seriously.  Once it’s clean and ready for guests, my husband and kids better avoid that bathroom like the plague if they know what’s good for them.  😉  I know there are moms out there that feel me on that.

It doesn’t take much to freshen a powder room for a dinner party.  I mean obviously you want to make sure it’s clean, stocked with toilet tissue, fresh hand towels, soap…..all the usual suspects for sure.  But to really give her that special we’re so happy to be entertaining guests feeling I like to introduce a small dose of the party theme to the space.  Most of the time it’s just by simply pulling in some flowers and greenery that match the table centerpiece, but for a holiday soiree I think it’s also fun to add in a little something festive to the mix.  So I added some pretty easter eggs to this sweet little vintage bowl to tie in with the spring theme of this soiree.

2. Grocery Store Flower Arrangements For The Win!

The other thing this relaxed entertainer is the queen of throwing together in less than five minutes is a pretty table centerpiece using none other than grocery store flowers.  Trader Joe’s flowers are life!

I’m no expert, but I’ve found the key to creating a pretty arrangement is:

  1. Mix your flowers like you would mix fabric patterns  –  combine large blooms, medium and small.  grocery store centerpiece
  2. Start arranging with an empty vase.  Then add your water when you’re done.  Seriously guys, this one tip is a game changer as it will help to keep your stems in place until you’re all done.
  3. Layer in your greenery first. Then add in your large blooms, then medium and then small, working around your arrangement and filling in any gaps. grocery store flower arrangement
  4. Monochromatic schemes are the simplest to work with and make for a stunning table centerpiece.

And now I’ll let these hosting queens take it from here!  You won’t want to miss any part of this progressive dinner party!
