In the almost four years that we’ve lived in this house I don’t think I’ve ever shown you our game room. Â You’ve seen snippets around the holidays because I’ve always decorated a small tree in this space with the kids. Â But you’ve never seen the whole space, and there’s a reason. Â I’ve never really gotten around to decorating this space, which is sad but true. Â It’s been kind of basic and boring in here. Â But nothing lights a fire under you like putting your house on the market. Â So when At Home Stores reached out to see if I’d like to once again partner up (check out the screen porch refresh I collaborated with them on last summer) to freshen up a space in my home, I knew our game room was the perfect candidate!
Before
Here’s how the room looked on the MLS listing when we bought this house. Â So much potential right?!
We moved in and I repainted the walls (even though that’s hard to tell in these photos- the walls went from beige to white with a grey undertone).  I brought in our sectional from our Kentucky basement and a pool table (for the grown-up kids 😉 ) .  And those two large pieces really filled out the room well and helped to create a couple of different zones in this space.
But even with fresh paint, furniture and a few accessories the room still felt pretty boring, especially compared to the rest of our house.  Honestly, this room has just kind of looked like an afterthought…..like we ran out of steam…..which is kind of true.  😉  It just needed a little love in the decor department.  But being that we would be putting our house on the market, I didn’t want to go bananas with accessories and make the room feel too cluttered.  I just wanted to create an inviting space that highlights how great this bonus room can be for a family.
What I needed was just a few key pieces to make the space feel more finished but not overdone.  And At Home was the perfect place to find just what this room needed.  They don’t call themselves the Home Decor Superstore for nothing.  😉
After
Crazy what a few fun pieces can do for a space right?! Â Doesn’t this make you want to grab a big bowl of popcorn and get your Netflix binge on now?!
I considered a coffee table, but ultimately I wanted a more relaxed vibe.  So I brought in these two navy blue velvet ottomans that are just gorgeous!  I love the shape, and they can be used a foot stool, extra seating or even a side table if you prop a tray on top.  They’re so versatile!  And they match this fun chevron print lumbar throw pillow perfectly.
Next up I replaced the wreath with a clock. Â I love mixing in something round in a gallery wall of frames to keep things interesting.
I’m a big fan of lamps and this room desperately needed a few. Â I wanted to beef up the television area by flanking the media console with a couple of lamps, but working with the pitch of the ceiling was a little tricky. Â Another set of ottomans to the rescue! Â Pictures do not do these ratan ottomans justice. Â They are so pretty, and I love the texture they bring in to the space.
The top is perfectly flat making them ideal for these black and gold task lamps.

Who says game storage can’t be chic?
To balance things out on the other side of the room I shopped my own home. I moved this old piece in from the guest bedroom, found a lamp at the Goodwill and then found the perfect replacement lampshade at At Home. Â If you have never been to an At Home store before, you will be amazed at their extensive collection of lamps and lampshades. Â There a literally aisles and aisles filled with just about every style, color, pattern……it’s like lamp heaven! Â And I love their vast assortment of lamp shades because sometimes all you need is a new shade to give an old lamp fresh life.
So now our game room feels much more inviting!
The kids are definitely enjoying it much more now.
And I’m kind of kicking myself for not whipping this space into shape sooner…….but that’s life I guess.
Looking in from the hallway makes me smile instead of sigh now. Â This house has served us so well, and I hope whoever ends up living here next will love it as much as we have!
Thanks to At Home Stores for sponsoring this post! Â As you all know I only ever work with companies and brands I truly love. Â Thank you for supporting Our Fifth House sponsors!
Do you have an At Home in your area?  I could spend hours in that store….and often do.  😉
Luv the red cabinet in there! So nice to be able to use it vertically or horizontally. The rug really anchors the sectional and complements the room.
I see your Schnauzers like popcorn, too. I think mine would eat a whole bowl full.
