New Year New Room Refresh Challenge – Week 4 – Finished Molding + Hallway Runner

Well, friends, it’s week 4 of the New Year New Room Refresh Challenge, which means I’ve got just one week left to finish this hallway project. And things are looking a little dicey at the moment as I’ve hit a small bump in the road. But I’m trying to remind myself that in DIY, you win some and you lose some. It’s all just a part of the game. And this past week I’ve experienced both. I finished all of the box moldings, caulked, filled all of the nail holes, and bought myself my very first paint sprayer. Riding high, thinking I had finished all the hard work and was getting ready to breeze through the painting process, I prepped the space, read all of the directions on how to operate my new sprayer, watched a few youtube tutorials, and was so excited to break in my new toy…….

But unfortunately, things did not go well. If you’ve been following my Instagram Stories, you know that I’m not happy with the results. See the photos below? Those streaks! Ugh. But that’s not even the most unsatisfying part. This Wagner sprayer has given the trim an orange peel finish. Ugh. All of this work and effort…..feels wasted. But I’ve learned quite a bit in the past 24 hours. So all is not completely lost.

I’m currently in troubleshooting mode and will be course-correcting this week as I race to the finish line!

I’ll be sure to share how I fix this horrible paint job…..when I fix it. I’ll also be going into more detail about the pros and cons of this particular sprayer in a blog post very soon. It’s not a “bad” sprayer. I just don’t think it’s the best for trim work or semi-gloss finishes on walls. More thoughts coming soon…..first, I’ve got a bad paint job to deal with….. 😉

In good news, this gorgeous wool and jute runner arrived, and I’m so in love!!! I can’t wait to finish painting, so I can roll this beauty down the hallway!

One week to go! I think I can…I think I can…..wish me luck! And if you’ve got a paint sprayer you love or any paint spraying tips to share, drop them in the comments!

  • Looking forward to seeing the reveal. I’ve not yet used a paint sprayer, but my thinking would be that a hallway seems to be a fairly tight area to be using a sprayer.
