It’s not completely done yet, so I can’t check it off my to-do list just yet. However, I’m already in love with the look of this floor-to-ceiling box molding I added to our en suite hallway, and I can’t wait to finish and paint!

Speaking of paint, help me decide! I’m planning to stick with white (Sherwin Williams Pure White), which is one of the main reasons I opted to use primed wood. It really does make the painting process so much easier! But I’m trying to decide if I want to leave the walls flat white and do just the molding in a semi-gloss finish, or if I want to paint the molding and the walls in a semi-gloss finish. What are your thoughts?
Mixed finishes? Or all in semi-gloss?

I mean, I’ll have plenty of time to decide on the paint finish while I’m caulking, but I’d love to hear your thoughts!
Caulk is definitely going to be my friend, as you can see some corners aren’t exactly perfect. 😉

But that just makes me even more proud of the corners that are exactly right.
Please don’t ever let the fear of not doing something perfectly keep you from trying a project! If I can do this, you can too! My projects are never perfect, but I promise you, once I’m done with the caulk and paint that little gap up above will be imperceptible!
Making the Cuts
A few tips for wall molding:
- Cut all of your pieces at once that way you can make sure they’re all the same length. You can line up your tops and bottoms and then your right and left pieces to check the lengths before attaching them to the wall.
- Box molding is cut at a 45 degree angle.
- The higher edge is the outside edge, and the decorative edge or lower edge is the inside.
- You want to cut inward towards the decorative edge. So the furthest point of all of your cut pieces will be at the higher/outside edge.
- Precut a spacing block to use to make sure all of your boxes are spaced equally.
*If you’re curious how I plan out the layout of molding on a wall, I walked through my process in this post last year.

I’m so excited to finish these boxes and wrap up my New Year New Room Refresh Challenge! So glad I finally invested in this cordless nailer. In addition to a miter saw, this nailer has made this molding project a total breeze, and I’m kicking myself for not investing in one sooner.

I’ll be back with another en suite hallway update next Tuesday. Now be sure to hop over and check out the progress the other New Year New Room Refresh Challenge participants have made this week! There are so many fun projects being tackled this month by this incredible group of creatives! I’m thrilled to be in such great company!
