New Year New Room Refresh Challenge: Molding is Done, Help Me Decide on a Paint Color!

It’s week four of the New Year New Room Refresh Challenge, which means it’s crunch time as the challenge ends next week! Thank goodness I’m finished with the board and batten molding, but now I need to decide on a paint color.

I had originally planned on going dark and moody in this bathroom vanity space. See my inspiration here.

But now that I have the molding up…..

…I’m not so sure I want to paint it dark.

Excuse my terrible Instagram Stories mockups, but you get where I’m going, right? What are your thoughts? Should I paint the molding dark brown, as I had originally planned? I think if I do, I should paint the door too, right? Leaving it white feels a little disjointed.

Or should I paint the walls brown and leave the molding white?

Here’s a pulled back view from my son’s bedroom. Does that change or impact your opinion?

Honestly, the beauty of a design challenge like this is that it forces me to make a gut decision rather than waffling back and forth forever (like I usually do 😉 ). I *think* I know what I’m going to do, but I’m curious to hear your thoughts!

  • First I want to say just how fabulous that molding is! Girl you are amazing! Now to the issue at hand… my vote is to paint the wall dark brown & leave the molding & door white! It gives the molding the presence it’s due!

  • I would Leave the panels and trim white and paint the walls the deep brown colo. I think it has somehing to do with seeing the white tiles from the shower, and i’d prefer not having the light/dark chopped up across the lower part of the room. Also im not sure how the brown wo look against the black vanity. I also am the person who mentioned dust/powder being Noticeable on the cross pices of the moulding. (Forgive the typos, i cant see the light font on the white bacgground very well)

  • Honestly, i’m not a fan of the brown. it does compliment your son’s room but i feel like there has to be a better choice. if you do the brown (or any colorr i feel) you’ll need to paint the door otherwise you are correct, it feels disjointed.
