Exterior Update: Grey Louvers

It’s been a few months since I first mentioned that I was thinking about an exterior paint color change. But I finally settled on a color and the work was recently completed, and I’m in love with our grey louvers!

I seriously love this new look so much! And while my mockup skills are severely lacking, this amateur mockup really did help me to make a decision and go with grey.

You might remember I was waffling between having them painted pink to match the house or keeping them black and repainting them in a semigloss finish. But in the end, it was actually a few of you that suggested grey, an option I hadn’t even considered! So thank YOU!

I chose Aged Cobblestone from the Duron Collection for Sherwin Williams, which pairs so well with State Street Pink. And I opted to have the top trim detail around all of the doors and windows as well as the stair post caps painted to match. I think those little details are my favorite part of this exterior color change. I love how they bring the color palette together and create a cohesive, intentional look.

As a reminder, the louvers were previously done in a black satin finish. And after less than 3 years of living in this house, they were already in need of refreshing, and they showed every bit of dust, pollen, and dirt.

I was kind of nervous about changing them to grey, but I’m so glad I went for it anyway! The grey will not only be so much easier to maintain, camouflaging dust and dirt so much better than black, but I really do love how the grey softened the exterior and makes the house stand out. Now your eye is drawn up the stairs to the doors, and the louvers aren’t stealing the show.

Love this change so much! And I can’t wait to show you how the back of the house looks now with the louvers in grey! This color change was such a game-changer for our patio area. More on that space coming very soon!

This was not a DIY. I hired University Painters and they did a great job! Charleston locals, my friend Betsy is the Director of Sales for our area. If you have any painting jobs you’re looking to hire out, I highly recommend University Painters!
