Two updates on house #7 in one week?! It’s full steam ahead at this point, which means it’s time to nail down a lot of decisions. I decided on a shade of pink for the exterior as soon as we were finished having the plans drawn up, but now it’s time to select the exact shade. And I have to be honest with you all, this is by far the scariest design decision of this whole entire process. (It’s really expensive to repaint a house, so I have to get this right. No pressure. 😉 )
Our local Sherwin Williams has a regional color guide ~ Colors of Historic Charleston ~ and a portion of the proceeds from purchasing from this collection goes to support the preservation and educational programs of the Historic Charleston Foundation. The colors in this collection all feel like pretty safe bets for our area, and I love that we’ll also be supporting local in choosing a color from this palette.
The Siding Is Going Up
The siding has started to go up this week, which is very exciting! It really makes the house look more like a house, ya know? But this also means time is running out, and I need to choose a color!

I figured the best way to test the four different shades was to bring these large poster boards (painted on white which will be the color of our trim) over to the house and evaluate them at different times of day and in different lighting scenarios.
I’m also weighing in the fact that some of the exterior siding will be visible from the living room, dining room and kitchen. So I want whatever shade of pink we choose to be something that flows well with the finishes and colors we’ll be using inside.

This last picture is a little overexposed…..it was just so bright when it was snapped, but it kind of gives you an idea of how these shades of pink will play with the black doors.

Selecting a color for the exterior of a house is a little different than selecting one for an interior. There are so many factors to consider. And color never looks the same indoors as it does outside. I’m leaning toward State Street Pink at this point, as it feels like the most subdued pink shade of the four. What are your thoughts?
Wow that’s a tuff decision. I like all of them. I’m sure it will be amazing.
