putting the “little” in little girl style

It was a sad day for me when my girl outgrew the toddler section at Target.  I’m serious.  I think I cried.    The toddler clothing section at Target is ridiculously cute (moms, you already know this) and the prices can’t be beat.  Across the aisle in the “big girls” department it’s kind of hit or miss.  Some stuff is fabulous, and other items seem a little too old looking for my 7 year old to be wearing.  It’s a tough age to shop for – I think.  On one hand she’s beginning to have an opinion about what she wants to wear, and I think it’s great for her to want to express herself in that way.  However, I don’t want her growing up too soon and dressing older than she is.  I find that a lot of companies sell what looks like women’s clothing in little girl’s sizes which makes it kind of hard to find cute, well made clothing that looks like it was made for a 7 year old girl to wear (not a 22 year old) that is also affordable.

When my mother in law introduced me to the Lands’ End kids department it was basically like love at first sight.  The clothing is fun and sweet, well made and the pricing is great!

The clothes are livable and always wash really well.  This particular outfit has been in rotation since this past fall (I think she wore this on the first day of school) and still looks practically brand new.

I love little details like a ruffled placket that says “this is sweet and girly”.

Are you a Lands’ End shopper?  Am I the only one that didn’t realize how great their kids department was?  I love that they ship for free everyday on orders over $50!
This chambray shirt is currently on sale with limited sizing.  Unfortunately the pants are no longer available.  You can order a pair of monogrammed converse here.  I’m pretty sure that flower hair clip came from the Michael’s dollar section. (They always have the best little goodies there!)
And here are a few of my current favorites for spring and summer.  I’m in LOVE with the flamingo skirt and don’t even get me started on the pom pom scarf!!!  Serious cuteness overload!

Oh and PS – These sweet riding boots (be still my equestrian loving heart) are on sale; sizing is limited, but if you can guestimate your little’s shoe size for fall it’s a great price to snag them!
This wasn’t a sponsored post.  I just wanted to spread the word for my momma friends in case you were like me and had no idea how great Lands’ End was for kids.  I like celebrating companies that keep our little girls little for as long as possible!

  • I feel your pain. I too cried when my "little" girl outgrew the toddler section. I had no idea Land's End even made kids clothes. When my daughter outgrew the toddler section we started shopping a lot more at The Children's Place and Crazy 8. Good quality kids clothes. Not shrunken adult clothes. And both stores have GREAT sales!

  • We do well for my almost 8 yr old at Gymboree. Plenty of cute not grown up stuff. We live about 15 mins from a Gymboree outlet so that makes it really fun to shop!

  • Yes and yes. I was in love with Target's Toddler section but I only pick up the very basics at Girls. We switched to Land's End also, their sporty comfortable skirts and leggings. My child is in love with leggings, I've had to embrace this with tunics and cute shoes. We got the most adorable boots and moccasins from LE. But we are also in love with Kohl's Jumping Beans plaid capris and shorts. I find the length a little more modest for an really busy girl and very lightweight, ooh and they're elastic waist for quick change. Cute.

  • I had no idea they sold kids' clothes. I agree with you on Target – the swimsuits especially seem a little too old for this age group. 🙁 Unfortunately, the prices at LE are still too high for us – even on sale – but for a special outfit, these would be adorable. Thanks for the info!

  • I admit, I was going to go a bit huffy with you. Until I actually saw the clothing and prices. I thought they would be crazy expensive and just all pepto bismol pink for girls. But I'm glad it is not. I am tired of the frou-frou styles for girls, especially my little Hot Wheels loving 2 year old girl. And I want brighter colours in my 4 year old boy's wardrobe. Land's End might be that place 🙂

  • those zebra jeans are too cute! It will be a sad day for me too when my daughter outgrows the Target toddler section, I have to hold myself back every time I go in there!

  • I love Land's End! They always have really really good end-of-season sales which is a good time to stock up for the kids. I always get my swimsuits there, too…much better selection for the styles I like, and last year I was obsessed with their basic scoop-neck Ts; great quality, great colors. Now, if they only had maternity styles I'd never have to go anywhere else 😉

  • I typically like pink in mini-doses not mega-doses so I totally get what you're saying. 😉 Lands' End usually has a variety of colors – and their style is classic but fun. They run great sales too!

  • Oh girl yes the end of season sales are always amazing! I bought both of my kids winter jackets last January for $12 each! They were originally $69! My daughter's is a fun chartreuse color – I love it!

  • Yes!! On all counts! My oldest is in her last year for the toddler section everywhere – Target, Gap, Old Navy – and I am sort of devastated about it. But I have been onto Lands End kids for a couple years now. Just got my girls' Easter dresses there. Such a fan of their girl clothes, just super, super cute. And I agree on the amazing quality.

  • I second the tip on Naartjie clothing. The quality is outstanding and you get all the sweet frilly details like Matilda Jane. You can check them out online. You won't be disappointed!

  • Super cute! I could see my 8 year-old loving those clothes! She definitely has an opinion, and wants to shop at Justice (ick – that store feels like an acid trip!). I prefer cute and well made clothes, but I'm afraid my Gymboree days might be limited! Must check out Lands End more closely!

  • If you like Land's End, you may also like LL Bean. If you get their credit card, you receive free shipping and free return shipping and free monogramming.

  • I agree wholeheartedly about the Target girls section. It's the same for the boys as well. I absolutely don't want my kids to dress beyond their years. I will check out Lands End.

  • Hhhm, the zebra pants are adorable, I was immediately drawn to them for my little girl. But then, wow, $32. And $17 for that heart t-shirt?? That's too pricey for me. I can only afford to shop Lands End when I am lucky enough to snag the size I need for my daughter (and son — twins age 7) when it first goes on sale. But, I do love their stuff! I also shop Crazy 8, and The Children's Place.

  • I have loved Lands End girls' clothes and was SO sad when the Sears in Lex closed as that was my go-to shopping place for cute, age-appropriate clothes (esp their sale rack). I have also gotten a number of LE items through consignment shopping and they are always still in great condition even after multiple washings. Sometimes you do get what you pay for!

  • Yes, I was sad to see it go too- but that's why I love their shipping policy – free for any order over $50 all the time. You really can't beat their quality – the clothes last and wear really well!

  • I don't even have kids but I have been shocked by some of the "styles" I've seen hanging in the kiddie racks at some stores for girls. Definitely NOT age appropriate!
