wrapping with fabric scraps

Have you started wrapping presents yet?  I think the wrapping is more fun than the shopping!  Although as much as I love a pretty package, I don’t love spending a pretty penny on wrapping materials.  I’m a big fan of plain brown paper, and I like to raid my fabric scraps for embellishments.

I hoard those garland pipe cleaners at this time of year.  You can find them at most craft stores.  I use them for everything from napkins rings to adding a sweet little monogram to a gift package.

(*A little tip for wrapping presents with brown paper and fabric scraps is to use packing tape instead of regular scotch tape – trust me on this.)

I also like to use my fabric scraps to make preppy bow ties.  They’re so simple to make and look so cute on a present!

These little bow ties are so fun, preppy and sweet that I often skip the wrapping part all-together and just tie them on an unwrapped plain box with some twine.  They also make for a fun way to dress up a bottle of wine!

My plan is to get my wrapping done early this year.  Let’s hope that actually happens!  If you don’t have a heaping pile of fabric scraps to sort through take a look at some of your kids outgrown clothes.  A few years ago I made a wreath out of my son’s old sweater vest, and I still use that wreath in my decor every year!
