entry foyer plans, decisions & art options

I mentioned when I talked about what my plans are for the house and the blog this year that the entry foyer was on the hit list.  SO February is half over and it’s time to get crack-a-lackin’.  It’s basically looked like this since move-in day, well, minus the boxes.

Clearly our miniature schnauzer has the ruffest life.  #seewhatididthere   😉

I ordered a few wallpaper samples from Serena and Lily……..

but I just wasn’t feeling any of them.   I realized that what I really want to do is add texture to the walls and create a little flow from the entry to the rest of the house.  So I’m going with the same grasscloth wallpaper I used on the back of the bookcases in the our living room.  Those of you who’ve been around the blog for a while might remember that I used this same paper in my hubs office at our fifth house.  I shared a simple to follow tutorial here, but I’ll be sharing another more in depth one very soon.

I’ve finally started working on wallpapering this past weekend.

But I’m still undecided on what color I want to paint the inside of the front doors.  Our dogs are terrible for jumping up on the door when anyone comes to the door so the white doors always look so dirty.  What are your thoughts?  Pink like the exterior of the doors which would be fun and a bit unexpected, or should I go with a classic look and paint them my trusty Sherwin Williams Urbane Bronze?

Decisions…..decisions…….

In the meantime because my favorite part of any room design is always in the styling, I’ve been perusing art options at Minted.

Beautiful Art Options for the Entry Foyer from Minted
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7,

I chose one of the above options to hang over the bench.  Can you guess which one I chose?  It might surprise you long time readers that I didn’t go with a horse print in here.  Crazy, right?  ðŸ˜‰

I love scrolling for art on Minted because even if you’re not planing to have them do the framing you can play around with different options on the site to decide what you like.  I’m a visual person so this really helps me to see the big picture in terms of what I want in a space.

I’m just glad to finally be getting started on our entry foyer.  It’s our home’s first impression to visitor’s, and I want it to have a healthy dose of personality paired with simplicity and function.  I might even be busting out my power tools for this project.   #itsabouttime

  • Carmel, I'd go with the Urbane Bronze…as we also have jumping bean dogs! As far as the chosen print? I think you may have chosen 3 as it means 'welcome', but knowing your love of florals…maybe not! Can't wait to see the finished project!

  • I would have said the horse prints first, but I also know you are taking a bit of a different direction with this house. If you chose #5 I could see painting the doors pink, but think in the long run with the pooches you'll be happier with the Urbane Bronze. There is something about #3 that says Carmel to me, black and white, bold and a bit quirky.

  • I prefer copper metallic, but definitely look forward to seeing what you choose. For the doors, may I suggest framing interchangeable carpet squares or rectangles? at pooch height, for easier cleaning? Happy creating!

  • Hi, there. I haven't commented before, but I've been following for awhile. Thanks, BTW, for the San Antonio post. My husband and I are in the planning stages for a trip there also. I see you're leaning toward the Urban Bronze, which would be more pet friendly. The light pink would still look dirty too often, I'm afraid. I don't think it'd be too much of a stretch to go darker on the pink color swatch, if you did want a pop of brighter color. . . I look forward to seeing more. 🙂

  • I think that people get better and better at decorating their house the more chances they get to do it. I might not have moved a lot but I guess my house in Joondalup is not as bad that a quick remodelling won't fix! Haha!
