Blush for Fall

Starbucks brought back the Pumpkin Spice Latte on September 1st and all of sudden I’m over here like it’s time to bust out the boots and vests.  Nevermind that it’s been close to 90 degrees every day this week here in South Carolina.  😉  Inside my home it’s starting to look more like fall.

I’m not using traditional “fall” colors this year.  I’m actually pulling inspiration from my newest Janet Hill print.

It doesn’t exactly read “fall” but nevertheless it’s inspired me to bring in some blush tones to warm things up in our living room for the season.

It’s not a full on blush explosion, just a few pops.  I think fall is the most romantic season of the year.  There’s just something about cooler temps, leaves falling and cable knit sweaters that brings a little romance to the air.  Just me?  The color blush definitely brings some romance to the mix.  I’ve yet to add any pumpkins or any other traditional fall elements.   This year I’m going to keep the fall decor really simple just taking a cue from nature and adding in more layers.

I think the key to making blush tones work without reading too feminine is in counterbalancing them with deeper, richer shades and masculine elements.  For fall blush, deep burgundy, merlot and olive green make for a stunning bouquet of colors.

Though the really great thing about this color combination is that it doesn’t read too season specific.  It’s a palette that can be interpreted throughout the year.

I’m going to be swapping out my pink tribal throw, which isn’t really the right fit for my space, for this softer solid one.  While I was on the hunt for a blush toned throw I stumbled across lots of beautiful blush pieces for the home.  My jaw dropped when I ran across this wallpaper, so in love with this colorway!

Even my fall wardrobe has blush in major rotation.  One of my closet capsules, you can read about how I create these seasonal capsules here,  is all about browns, taupes, creams, olives and blush.  And this year I plan to add a few more blush pieces as well as some merlot and oxblood. blush fall capsule

What I learned last year during my first fall in South Carolina is that in fashion it’s more about a color change than a material change.  We were swimming on Halloween last year, so while the outfit below doesn’t exactly scream “fall” this is a fall-ish look for me.  😉  I’ll swap the shorts for jeans when it starts to cool off a bit.

These are a few pieces on my radar for the upcoming season.  My birthday is in October and I wouldn’t mind receiving this watch! (Honey, are you reading this?)  😉

  • Well said!! I’ve never heard fall described as romantic before, but that’s exactly it! I love the fall! It gives me the happiest feeling. Even though in south Mississippi fall temps won’t arrive until November. I’m loving your blush color crush as well! This year I’m into purple. Or some variation of. I’m actually trying to recreate a wreath you had on your door in KY a couple of falls back. I love your new look in the living room! As always thanks for keeping us creatively challenged people (me) inspired!! Love your blog! Ps.. Ive already told 3 people your advice on being the team captain! Have a good weekend!!

  • I live in SC, too. The transition to fall is something I always struggle with. I love the idea, but the reality is, it’s still beach weather well into October. Love your outfit ideas and your blog! Great stuff!

  • I’m certainly not complaining about the warm weather! I’m a total beach girl. But, I did have to adjust my wardrobe just a bit. 😉

  • Thanks Lindsey! Purple and plum is so great with burnt orange this time of year! Glad you’re sharing that bit of advice with your friends! We all need to be reminded of that from time to time. 🙂

  • I’m having a blush moment as well. My office back in Pennsylvania had a lot of red, green and navy. But in this house, I have those dark cherry floors. I needed to lighten up but didn’t want to ditch everything I love. A peachy-pink blush infusion is the answer. I found it in a velvet fabric. BTW, the flower arrangement you posted made my heart flutter. I hope that watch finds its way onto your wrist.

  • Thanks for all you do/share. Quick question: Is there a trick to removing the used candle from the Rewind candle (which I love) for planting succulents?
