Hey friends and happy Monday! I’ve been dreaming and scheming where molding and trim is concerned since we decided to build a house. And at this particular moment in time I’m feeling very Macklemore Can’t Hold Us…..you know….. this is the moment, tonight is the night, we’ll fight till it’s over, so we put our hands up like the ceiling can’t hold us….. 😉 go listen to that song……..what I’m saying here, in case you’re not quite getting what I’m throwing down ;), is I’m getting so hype! The time has finally come….. next up on the new house docket are floors and trim! And this is my super bowl. I am here for all of it! 🙂
I’m going simple and classic, which matches the architecture of the exterior.
Give me all the clean lines! I’m bringing in a little wow factor in a few spaces ~ the entry foyer, the dining room and the master bedroom. But overall I’m going for a really understated vibe with nothing too ornate or fussy……because that just wouldn’t match the style of this house.

Hello gorgeous! Love these beefy baseboards and the simple but hefty door trim.
I have always loved an entry foyer with gorgeous floor to ceiling moldings!

A coffered ceiling has always been on my house dream list, and on paper I planned for the dining space to boast this incredible ceiling feature. But once I actually stood in the room I realized the space just wasn’t large enough to pull it off.

I was originally thinking that a coffered ceiling in this open concept dining space would elevate and visually separate this room from the kitchen and living area. But because the foot print is so small, I think ultimately a coffered ceiling in this case would just overwhelm the room.
So my second thought was to go with a low profile coffered ceiling similar to this look below minus the bead board.

And while I love this idea, after thinking on it for a while I just don’t think this is the right look for the space either.
So I’ve decided instead to go with two very simple beams that will flank the chandelier. Similar in style to this image below, but just two beefy beams. And they’ll be done in white not a contrasting color. So while the coffered ceiling dream will remain a dream, I do think the ceiling in the dining space will be special enough to make it feel a little more grand….a little more like a dining space than a breakfast room, which is what I’m going for because we won’t have a formal dining room in this house.
Speaking of ideas that will remain in the dream folder because they’re not the right fit for our house stylistically……… Using molding to visually separate spaces in an open floor plan has always been an idea I’ve wanted to bring to life. I mean, how gorgeous is this?! This is such a great idea for renovating older homes where you want to knock down walls but you also want to keep the old house feel. And I love that they stained this detail rather than painting it white. This is just stunning!

Where I’m still not quite decided on a game plan is in the master bedroom. Here again I want to do something to accentuate the ceiling. But this middle section is too wide for one straight beam to run across.
So as gorgeous as this is, it wouldn’t work in our space.

I’m considering something similar to this but on a smaller scale and not rustic.

Something like this could also work with the shape of the ceiling but it’s less dramatic…..and I kind of want some drama. What are your thoughts?

Love all these ideas! It’s so fun seeing it all come together and I love that you painted the exterior pink! My place is pink too and it makes me so happy to come home to it every day!
Could you do something like this for the master ceiling? https://www.pinterest.de/pin/AZG-4DcvQe_vCmdidkqQsXckT7CjCnirIYYpFUtgp55NZoWd0pX4BiA/
or even simpler, this? https://www.pinterest.de/pin/368239707005005641/
