It’s February 1st which means this month-long design challenge, the New Year New Room Refresh Challenge, is over! Woohoo! I finished just in time, and I’m so happy with the way this en suite hallway project came together, especially after the paint sprayer issues I had last week. Thankfully, I course-corrected and got her done!

As a reminder, here’s a look at the before.

And now!

Adding the box molding made a world of difference. It gave these walls depth and interest, but I think the semi-gloss finish is my favorite part of this makeover! I just love the way the light bounces off these walls!

After last week’s paint sprayer debacle, I wasn’t sure this hallway project was going to come together in time. But thanks to my favorite paint to use on trim work, Sherwin Williams Urethane Trim Enamel, a smooth surface paint roller, and an angled brush, I was able to course-correct and get this makeover done just in time!
This is Charleston White from the Duron Collection for Sherwin Willams, and I painted both the walls and trim in a semi-gloss finish. The ceiling is Hitching Post Black from the same collection.

Using a recessed light converter kit I was able to bring in these gorgeous marble fluted flush mounts. When we were in the building process, I opted to have can lights added to all of our hallways knowing that if I ever wanted to swap them for something more decorative it would be a fairly simple switch.

I love the way the round shape breaks up all the straight lines, and the fluted detail adds the perfect touch of whimsy. Yet the marble makes them feel really classic.
I was initially bummed that I’d have to use a medallion as the base of this flush mount is just a tad too small to cover the opening, but I ended up really loving the look. I think it gives these flush mounts more visual presence against the contrasting black background.

Last but not least, let’s chat about this runner and floor mirror!

This is the Polly rug from the Chris Loves Julia collection for Loloi. It’s a blend of wool and jute that feels great underfoot.

The grid pattern is reminiscent of a plaid, and it brings a nice masculine vibe to the space. The ivory and black colorway marry the black in the bathroom and bedroom. And I really love this punch of bold pattern in here tying the two spaces together.

Last but certainly not least, this floor mirror is a major upgrade from the one we had. The antique black finish is stunning in person! Pictures really don’t do it justice. It’s not vintage, but this mirror definitely has an heirloom quality.

And that concludes my New Year New Room Refresh Challenge for 2022! All boxes checked! Insert praise hands. 😉

Thanks so much for coming along as I gave this little hallway a makeover! I really appreciate all of your encouragement along the way! I’ve always been a fan of details in design, and I think this hallway project is a great example of how much of an impact the smallest details can have in a space.
