Master Bedroom Design Plan – Help Me Decide

Just as I thought it would, painting the bed black has inspired me!

I don’t know why I was so nervous about painting it because it looks so great. My only regret is that I didn’t paint it sooner. Next week I’ll share the after pics and all the DIY details!

For now, I need your help making a decision.

Which bedding should I choose?

The rug is the jumping off point for this room design. With the bed being traditional I want to bring in something modern. And I like the idea of a bold pattern in a neutral tone.

I’ve done either all white bedding or a solid colored quilt on my bed for years now, so I’m ready for something different and pattern-full. But I can’t decide which pattern I like best.

You all know I’m huge fan of leopard print, but this large scale floral created from a licensed antique fragment of a William Morris design is pretty special and unique. I’m having such a hard time deciding between the two because either choice seems pretty great. Which is your favorite?

Both patterns are available on Spoonflower and are by Peacoquette Designs. And I think I might be the last person on Earth to find out Spoonflower does bedding now?! Did you know?! I’m super excited to try one of their duvets. They also do sheets and throw blankets! SO many options! But first I need to make a pattern choice. Which should I choose?

Leopard?

  • While I do love animal print, I would choose the floral. It would look beautiful with your black bed. I think the leopard might be too much…I tend to prefer animal print as an accent rather than focal point. However, you will undoubtedly make either one look fabulous.

  • I too am a huge animal print lover but I love the floral. I think it will be more peaceful which is always welcome in a bedroom

  • Not too sound like a Debbie downer but the floral bedding and the rug seem to be too close in scale and appear to be competing with each other. I like leopard but agree in accents, although I visited a lady in a beautiful home and she had leopard running up her staircase And it was quite a showstopper.

  • Hi Carmel. Love love love the Leopard print but with the black bolster. It feels classic and a little sexy. And some sumptuous creamy ivory sheets. Perfect for a master bedroom. Thanks for sharing your decision process with us. Whatever you end up choosing will be Just perfect.

  • The bed is far enough off the ground that I don’t think it’ll be an issue, but the beauty of ordering through Spoonflower is that you can almost always have the scale of any pattern adjusted!

  • With the black bed I can see how you are torn between these two but I would pick the floral also. I think it will look good all year. When spring finally gets here you would love the fact that it will give off a spring vibe.

  • I vote for the leopard! By the time you add fun sheets, and a variety of pillows, the leopard will become an accent! I think over time the leopard will be much more versitile as well- red and/or plaid sheets at Christmas, navy, emerald, the options are endless! I think the floral is more limiting in your ability to change things up on a whim!

  • I was on team “don’t paint the bed” , but I’m glad you followed your instincts because it is striking! I’m not usually a floral fan, but I would go with number 2–really unique pattern! Hugs from Waco:)

  • Love the rug, lighting and black bed, and in general love your style and willingness to be bold, but honestly, neither of those bed spreads are doing it for me

  • I’m not usually a green person but that floral is really pretty. Think it will go nicely with your black bed. I’m sure whichever you choose will be gorgeous!

  • I think it screams leopard print!! I love the leopard with the rug. Also big fan of the bed painted black….good call. I think I would tire of the floral.

  • Animal print comfort is the best. Different seasons you can add all colors in accent pillows without changing the comfort.Red and orange in fall. Yellow or light blue in the spring. Plain white for summer. Don’t just think about what matches the bed it’s more interesting when it’s mixed.

  • I like the floral best too, but not with that rug. I think a neutral solid would look better. The large floral comforter and the rug both have big patterns and I think they might conflict. So the small pattern of leopard with the large print of the rug seems better balanced. What I really want you to do is use the floral and pick a different rug :).
