Tile Selected, Lighting Options – Fall 2020 ORC Week 3

It’s week 3 of the One Room Challenge, the halfway point, which means it’s crunch time! So it’s a good thing that I’ve made up my mind regarding the backsplash tile options!

one room challenge

I actually ended up choosing a tile option that I had originally ruled out and didn’t show you all last week. As I was wrestling with backsplash indecision, I decided to take my own design advice ~ “cast the star of the space”. I’ve always said that it’s important to take a step back from your spaces and decide what you want to be the star of the space, the main attraction if you will. And this helps so much because a room with too many stars means there really isn’t a star at all, you know? If everything in a space is screaming for attention, the eye has nowhere to focus.

SO with that in mind, I decided the star should most definitely be the custom-built wine storage. And that decision made selecting the tile so much easier.

Because then I knew right away that none of the above options would work. That black tile I was originally leaning towards stole the show from the wine bottles. But I did love the dark, moody vibe it added to the space.

SO with that in mind, I’ve decided to go with this gorgeous grey marble!

I love the movement and variation of color. And I feel like it will be a beautiful compliment, an oscar-nominated supporting actor ;), to the wine storage.

Here’s a look at this tile in a kitchen to give you an idea of what it’ll look like when it’s installed. I love this brick lay with dark grout! And it’s going to look great with the white Corian countertop!

Now that the tile is nailed down, it’s time to finalize the other design elements in the space.

When we were in the building process, I couldn’t decide on a light fixture for this pantry. So I went with a simple flush-mount knowing I would one day swap it for a pendant.

I considered this.

Any guess what I chose?

Next up, I’ll be addressing the small window in this pantry! I’m thinking of either DIY’ing a roman shade or bringing in bamboo blinds…… to be continued next week!

Be sure to check out how the featured designers and all the other participants are doing this week! The half-way point of the One Room Challenge is when things start to get really exciting as rooms begin to come together!

  • Love your tile choice. Last week I voted for the light gray because I thought the black would overpower the wine bottles. Now that I see the dark gray I’m switching my vote.
