Last fall when I set out to finish our walk-in pantry for the One Room Challenge my plans got delayed due to backorders, but it’s finally “done”! Or at least as done as any space ever is around here. 😉 Design is an evolution, right? So there are always changes and tweaks; but here’s where it is today. And I couldn’t be happier with how it all came together. This little pantry is absolutely one of my most favorite spaces in our home!

During the building process, as soon as we decided on an open-concept floor plan with the kitchen, living and dining room all within view of each other, I knew I wanted to treat our walk-in pantry as more than just a storage area. I really wanted it to feel like an extension of our kitchen where we could house all of our small appliances and really make the most of the space.

So I opted for a glass door to create a visual connection between the kitchen and pantry and further linked the two by painting the pantry the same color as the island. Because you can see right in, I wanted concealed storage via cabinetry instead of open shelving. And I had this custom wine storage rack built which is super functional but also makes for a beautiful focal point.

The campaign hardware is my absolute favorite little detail!

Putting the microwave in this corner by the door makes it easy to access but also keeps it out of view, which is a win-win in my book! I know a lot of people have strong opinions about microwaves in pantries. But we’ve been in our home for almost two years now and haven’t once regretted this decision.

And I have loved having our coffee pot in here as well! Starting my day in this moody little space every morning definitely elevates my coffee ritual. And isn’t that what creating home is really all about? Creating spaces that feel special to us, spaces that rise up to greet us….that’s what design is all about for me.

I wasn’t positive I wanted a sink in here at first. But I use it all the time! Not just for filling the coffee pot, but also for flower arranging and soaking fruits and veggies. My initial concern was that it would eat up my counter space, but this small-sized sink is perfect for the space and is so functional.

Without a doubt, this small window is the thing that really makes this space shine. Having some natural light in here really makes it feel more like a room than a closet. And it’s what really allowed me to go bold with a dark, matte backsplash tile. The little bit of light that filters through this window keeps this small space from feeling too heavy.

To take advantage of all possible storage options, I had some open shelves built behind the door. They’re only about 8 inches deep, so they don’t interfere with the function of the door at all. And I’m able to store so much here!

Our pantry was the space I was most excited about when we were building. And I’m so happy I took my time finalizing all the little details after we moved in to our home. Sometimes you need to live in a space for a while to really figure out how you want it to feel. This little room brings me so much joy! It combines function with form and really serves our family so well!
