I’m easing into fall decor in our living room and keeping it super simple with a yummy pumpkin candle on the coffee table and some white pumpkins on the mantel. But even these two little fall-inspired additions have me feeling all kinds of excited for the upcoming holiday season. Not because I’m ready to bust out the holiday decor bins just yet, but because I’m finally ready to give our fireplace the makeover I’ve been dreaming about since we moved into this house in October of 2019.

Some design decisions you make right away and some just require you to live in your space for a while before you feel ready to see them come to fruition, you know? I’ve always wanted to do something to our fireplace to make it more of a statement maker in our living room, but I wanted to see some of the other design elements around the fireplace set in place before bringing my plan to life.

The grasscloth that was added to the hallway and the backs of the bookcases was something I needed to see before making a decision. And now that I’ve lived with those two elements for a little while, I’m feeling ready to focus on adding more contrast, texture, and dimension to the fireplace.

I’m not planning anything major, but I do think the small update I’m planning to make is going to be a real game-changer. And I’m so pumped to tackle this in time for the holidays!

Inspiration
Ever heard of Lime Wash Paint? It’s a textured wall paint made with mineral pigments that refract light and add so much character to walls. It’s been around for ages. And apart from the velvety-suede-like finish it adds to walls, I love that it continues to bloom over time creating a really gorgeous patina and texture.
Here’s an inspiration image below I pulled from jH Wall Paints, the brand I’m planning to use for my project. I just love the way this paint on the walls and fireplace here gives this otherwise stark space a soft surrounding cushion of subtle texture!

And I can’t wait to see this paint on our fireplace!

I ordered three samples this week, and I can’t wait to see them in person!

Stay tuned. The samples will be here soon, and I’ll be sharing all the DIY details here on the blog!
