The One Room Challenge, the online design challenge where you completely makeover a space of your choosing in just 8 weeks, wrapped up this week, and I might be the last participant to cross the finish line. But after completing one last fun DIY project this past Thursday, I am finally ready to reveal my Plum Dandy Powder Bathroom! I’m so happy with how she came together. She feels classic and a bit whimsical. And I’m just so glad I decided (somewhat last minute) to jump into this challenge because it was just the motivation I needed to get in here and give this tiny bathroom a big personality!

The wall color (Sherwin Williams Plum Dandy) is just too yummy! This is the first time I’ve ever used a color from the purple family, and it’s also the first time I’ve ever designed a space by selecting the paint color first.

Normally, I choose the paint color last. I typically start with a piece of art or a rug and then select a shade because it’s easier to match a paint color to your accessories than it is to find accessories to match a color. But in this case, I selected the color purely because I’ve been so drawn to shades of deep plum lately, and I just knew that my vintage gold mirror would look amazing against a plum backdrop. And then while I’ve been out thrifting over the past few weeks, these two original art pieces and this perfectly sized throw rug just jumped out at me!

I’ve always felt like this little bathroom needed a night light, especially when we’re entertaining because it has no windows and it’s off a dark hallway. Plus, I big time love adding a lamp in a bathroom! But with a pedestal sink, I just didn’t have the counter space to make that happen. So I brought in this vintage plant stand, and I’m using a battery-powered light bulb! No need for an outlet, and I love it so much!

I also love adding furniture to a bathroom. With this powder bathroom lacking in the storage department, I brought in another small vintage plant stand and a vintage brass planter to hold extra rolls of tissue paper. Does anyone else have a low-key fear of running out of tissue paper at the worst possible moment? No worries when you come to my house now. 😉

The top print was something I already had on hand from the amazingly talented Laurel-Dawn, and I found this beautiful burl wood frame at Goodwill for $1!

As much as I love all of the vintage accessories, the new wall color, the metallic papered ceiling & glass link chandelier, and the classic subway tile I added to the walls, my absolute favorite part of this bathroom makeover is the stripes I added to the back of the door!

This DIY project was a labor of love, to say the least, but so worthwhile! It’s such a fun, unexpected detail! On the back of the door, it’s like this powder bathroom has a secret.

This blank canvas of a powder bathroom has come quite a long way in the last 8 weeks, and I’m so happy with how it all came together!
