One Room Challenge: Week 2 – Powder Bathroom – Inspiration & Design Plan

Week 2 snuck up on me because I started late. 😉 But I’ve finalized my design plan, and I’m ready to get this powder bathroom makeover started!

But first, let’s chat inspiration!

I’m no stranger to dark, moody paint colors, but I’ve never played with anything in the plum/purple family. But I’ve been really drawn to these colors for a while now, and this little powder room feels like the absolute perfect place to get creative with a new to me crayon color. 😉 I’ve yet to nail down the exact shade/paint color I’ll be using yet, but I’ve narrowed it down to a couple of different options.

My plan is to do something similar to this, using white subway tile from the base to the chair rail and then painting the rest of the walls a gorgeous moody plum/purple.

But I want to add a little decorative detail to the tile using this black ceramic pencil mold, similar to this beautiful bathroom.

But instead of using a decorative ceramic crown, I’d keep it simple to better flow with the clean-lined moldings we have throughout our home. I like the idea of using a double stripe with the pencil mold with maybe one on top and one just one row down…………

…….or two rows down. Do you have a preference? I’m leaning towards the two rows down layout at the moment, but I’m going to let that be a game time decision. I’m more of a visual person and just really need to see things come together in a space. This is why I don’t do a ton of visual moodboards. I just like to touch and feel and see samples in the room I’m working on before making decisions.

I’m so looking forward to getting started! And I’m loving that I have enough leftover subway tile from when we built this house (we used subway tile in the kitchen and three of the bathrooms) that this will basically be a free project! Plus I love me a callback in a home. Using repeating elements throughout a house, but changing them up ever so slightly, can create continuity and make all of the spaces feel connected, even if they each have their own special vibe.

And speaking of call backs, I also have enough leftover wallpaper from the library ceiling to do this powder bathroom ceiling! And I can’t wait to see how this paper warms up and bounces much needed light back into this little, windowless powder room. Paired with yummy plum walls it’s going to bring some major drama, and I’m so here for it! A powder room is the perfect place to play with design, and that’s exactly what I intend to do! This is going to be SO fun!

I also have a few vintage items on my hunting list, a diy art project I’m planning to do, and a couple of other small changes I’m planning to make in here over the next few weeks! So stay tuned! And let me know if you have any questions!
