Project turn this closet into a homework station and mudroom is well underway. And I’ve been ever so thankful for this creative distraction from the hard and heavy news lately. The hits just keep on coming, don’t they? What a year this has been. But creativity is truly saving me right now. Wanting to do something fun with the walls in this small space, I grabbed some Frogtape and just started playing. These vertical wall stripes are completely random. There is absolutely no specific pattern here, just lots of stripes in different widths. I was going for “organized chaos” which feels appropriate for a 2020 homework space. Am I right? 😉

And because the pattern is random there was absolutely no math involved. Insert praise hands! I just used a level to roll the tape down the walls, which was a breeze.

Then in keeping with “organized chaos”, I used a fun palette of paint colors and randomly filled in my stripes.
Wanting this space to flow and connect to other spaces in our home, I chose the colors I used here very thoughtfully, creating a palette that is really fun but totally intentional.
- State Street Pink is our home’s exterior color.
- Hurricane Blue is the color of our kitchen island and pantry.
- Chinese Red is almost an identical match to the red desk that will be added back into the space.
- Coral Reef is the coral I used in the mural in my girl’s room.
- Eye Catching, a fun chartreuse color, I added to the mix purely for fun! I wanted to add in a color that felt playful and whimsical.
- And last, there are just a few stripes of Hitching Post Black which is the black I used in my laundry room.
The bonus of my plan to repeat colors I’ve used in other spaces is that I already had most of the paint on hand! So I only had to purchase 2 quarts of paint!
*(All of these are Sherwin Williams paint colors. For more details about my house paint colors, click here.)

Pulling off the tape is always the most exciting part of painting stripes! Next up, I have plans to paint the bottom half of the space. Can you guess what color I’m planning to use?

Also yes, I’m on TikTok now. Don’t judge me. 2020 made me do it. 😉 I have no idea what I’m doing over there, but this little video does give you a play-by-play of this fun project!
I guess you’ll paint the bottom that red to make the desk disappear like the dresser in the office/guest room!
